Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (LDRP RN)
Position Overview
The Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (LDRP RN) plays a critical role in the care of mothers and their newborns during labor, delivery, and postpartum. This position requires expertise in various nursing interventions and a commitment to providing excellent patient care within a Labor and Delivery unit.
Job Details

- Required Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a relevant nursing position
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Unit Information
- Number of L&D Beds: 4 L&D beds, 7 postpartum beds
- Nurse-Patient Ratios: Labor: 1:1-2, Postpartum: 1:2-3
- Common Diagnoses/Types of Patients: Mothers and babies over 35 weeks in labor
- Titration of Drips: RNs are required to titrate drips
- Common Titratable Drips: Magnesium, Oxytocin, Lactated Ringer's, Zofran
- Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Based on availability
Responsibilities
The LDRP RN will be responsible for:
- Providing high-quality care for mothers and their newborns
- Titrating medications and IV fluids as per protocols
- Monitoring fetal heart rates and managing electronic fetal monitoring systems
- Conducting assessments of labor progress and intervening as needed
- Collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care
Additional Notes
This position is in a rural setting, which may require nurses to adapt to limited resources. Attributes that contribute to success in this unit include teamwork, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently. Orientation will include three 12-hour shifts specific to the unit.
Floating Requirements
Nurses may be required to float to assist in other areas, primarily for one-on-one patient observation.
Work Environment
- Standard scrubs will be provided.
- Facility-specific fit testing for N95 masks is required for clinicians with facial hair.
