Staff Nurse

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) protects, promotes, and optimizes health and abilities, prevents illness and injury, and alleviates suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. This role involves advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible for compliance with standards of practice and professional development according to the Nurse Practice Act, policies, regulations, and ethical codes, all while promoting a caring and healing patient-centered environment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a group of patients while serving as a primary nurse when designated by unit assignment.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management using available resources.
• Utilize knowledge of pharmacology and administer medications safely according to established policies.
• Share responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing, time management, supplies, and services.
• Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
• Actively participate in and support the Nursing Shared Governance Model, improvement initiatives, and peer review processes.
• Engage in professional development, continuing education, and meet mandatory education requirements.
• Integrate nursing research and current evidence into practice.
• Provide supportive learning environments for new employees and students.
• Adhere to organizational values and perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Six (6) months to three (3) years of nursing (RN) experience.
• Zero (0) to three (3) years of management experience.
• Five (5) or more years of direct experience in a clinical setting.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Effective judgment and critical thinking abilities.
• Organizational understanding and planning skills, including time management.
• Problem-solving and quality improvement capabilities.
• Reliability and commitment to safety and risk management.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Previous experience in an acute care or ambulatory nursing setting.

Education:

• Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

Certifications & Licensure:

• Required: Current RN License in New York State; BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
• Preferred: Professional certification in a related nursing specialty; relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the assigned unit.

Schedule Notes:

12-hour night shifts; 48 hours every other weekend.
