Assignment & Call

• Orientation dates: 11/23, 11/30, 12/7, or 12/14.
• Call: Up to 2 overnight calls/week and 1 weekend/month.
• Weekend call runs Friday at 5 p.m. through Monday at 6:30 a.m.
• Float across campuses, including Iowa Methodist Medical Center and Iowa Lutheran.
• Required to work 1–2 of the 3 upcoming winter holidays, unless the unit is closed.
• No locals: Must live at least 50 miles from the facility, verified by driver’s license.

Required Experience

• 24 months of current/recent OR and CVOR experience.
• Strong cardiac, vascular, and thoracic experience; approximately 80% cardiac / 20% general OR experience.
• General surgery circulating and open-heart scrubbing required.
• Level II trauma experience required; Level I preferred.
• Epic experience within the past 3 years.
• Prior travel assignment completed within the past 15 months; no first-time travelers.
• Active Iowa or compact RN license at submission.
• BLS required; submission requirements accept AHA or American Red Cross.

Unit Details

• Level I trauma center | 16 OR suites, routinely running 12–14.
• Approximately 35–50 cases/day; turnover expectation under 20 minutes.
• Service lines include cardiac/peripheral vascular, neuro, orthopedic trauma, robotics, general surgery, gynecology, urology, pediatrics, and transplant.
• Equipment includes 3 da Vinci robots, Stealth neuro navigation, and Synthes/Stryker orthopedic systems.
• 1:1 patient ratio; scrubs provided.

CVOR Orientation

• Approximately 2–3 weeks in general OR, followed by approximately 2 weeks in vascular, including circulating and scrubbing.
• Progress to cardiac circulating, shadow call, and scrubbing as competency develops.
• General OR call during approximately the first 6 weeks, before readiness for cardiac call.

Submission Requirements

• Resume documenting 24 months of current OR/CVOR experience.
• OR-specific skills checklist including scrubbing.
• Nursys verification of active Iowa or compact license.
• Driver’s license and BLS.
• Leadership reference from within the past 24 months preferred.
• Interviews may arrive by phone/text from a 405 area code.
