Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced PICU RN to join a high-acuity, fast-paced pediatric intensive care unit. The unit has 24 beds, with an average census of 21–23 patients.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of strong, high-acuity Pediatric ICU experience
- First-time travelers accepted
- RN license
- BLS and PALS required
- EPIC experience required
- Must be comfortable managing critically ill pediatric patients
Patient Population:
- Respiratory and trauma cases, including penetrating and non-accidental trauma
- DKA, seizures, and neurosurgical patients
- Acute and chronic renal failure
- Orthopedic and surgical patients
- Kidney and whole/partial liver transplants
- Complex medical and blood disorder cases
Required Skills & Experience:
- Critical care vasoactive drip titration
- Arterial lines and CVP monitoring
- Ventilator and tracheostomy management
- EVDs and Camino devices
- Artic Sun and Belmont Rapid Infuser
- CRRT
- Sedation and analgesic drip management
- Chest tubes, epidurals, and PCAs
- Foley catheter management
- G-tube/J-tube and feeding tube management
- Alaris and Medfusion pump management
- Invasive line management and sterile techniques
- Bedside procedures, suctioning, and discharge skills
Patient Ratios: Acuity-dependent, typically 1:1, 1:2, or 2:1.
Floating:
Travelers may float as needed to:
- Pediatric CVICU
- Pediatric Progressive Care
- NICU
- General Pediatrics
Ability to float to Pediatric CVICU will be discussed during the interview.
Facility & Unit Support:
- Charge nurse available 24/7
- Phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy, and intensivist support 24/7
- Resource nurse
- Residents and APPs in-house
- Unit secretary every shift
- Healthcare tech support
Scheduling:
- Every other weekend
- Holiday commitment: 75%
- No call for travelers
- Schedule cycle: Every 6 weeks
- RTO requires manager approval
- Departmental orientation provided
