We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Pediatric Psychiatry for a contract position in Bangor, ME. This role requires a compassionate professional who is willing to float between pediatric and adult patients as needed. Join our team at a leading acute-care hospital known for its commitment to providing quality mental health services.

Facility Overview: This is a free-standing acute inpatient facility with a total of 94 beds, including 50 for pediatric patients and 44 for adults. The facility is conveniently located near a contracted ER, ensuring all patients are medically cleared upon admission.

Unit Information: The pediatric unit consists of 50 beds, primarily serving adolescents and pediatric patients aged 5-18. Patients may present with various diagnoses, including autism, self-harm, depression, anxiety, and trauma-related issues.

Experience Requirements: A minimum of 1 year of inpatient psychiatric experience is required. Candidates with a mix of psychiatric and acute care pediatric experience, or experience working with autistic patients, are encouraged to apply. First-time travelers are welcome!

Patient Care: You will primarily care for adolescents and pediatric patients, including those with involuntary and voluntary admissions. The patient-to-staff ratio is 6 Psych Techs during the day and 2 at night.

Licenses and Certifications: Candidates must possess a BLS certification and a Maine CNA license. MOAB certification will be obtained on-site.

Skills Required: Ideal candidates should be comfortable with redirection, de-escalation, and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs). Responsibilities include rounding every 7.5 minutes, acting as a 1:1 sitter, and participating in physical holds as necessary.

Support and Resources: The department is well-supported with a Director of Nursing, Nurse Manager, and other healthcare professionals available for assistance. The management team is open to communication and encourages staff to address any concerns promptly.

Technology and Equipment: Familiarity with EMR systems (Cerner/Paper) and unit-specific equipment such as seclusion rooms and chair restraints is beneficial.

Orientation and Scheduling: New staff will undergo a structured orientation process. The schedule includes a modified self-scheduling system with weekend rotation every other weekend, and holiday work is expected in rotation.

Additional Notes: Scrub colors are flexible as long as they are professional. Free parking is available for all staff.
