PICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

The PICU Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing critical care to pediatric patients in a Level I Trauma and Teaching Hospital environment. The nurse will manage a patient load with a ratio of 1:2, ensuring high-quality care for children experiencing severe medical conditions.

Shift Information

The position involves rotating shifts. Nurses must be available to work either day or night shifts throughout the duration of their contract. Weekend availability is required, with four weekend shifts expected for day shifts and five for night shifts. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights are considered weekend shifts.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1.5 years of experience in a PICU or similar environment.
• Certifications: BLS, PALS, and New Mexico RN License.
• Experience with CRRT and ECMO procedures, ventilators, and inotropic drips is required.

Patient Population

The nurse will care for patients presenting with various conditions, including:

• Respiratory distress/failure
• Renal failure
• Trauma
• Hematology/Oncology issues
• Multi-system organ failure
• Suicide attempts

Floating Requirements

The PICU RN will be required to float to the NICU as needed and may also float to the Pediatric Emergency Department for admitted patient assignments. There is an option to cross-train to work in pediatric assignments.

Other Requirements

• COVID vaccine status must be reported, but vaccination is optional.
• Flu shot is required.
• Nurses must be capable and willing to take on two intubated patients when necessary.
• Requests for time off greater than seven days need prior approval.

Work Expectations

Night shifts are structured as 3x12-hour schedules. Contracted hours are set at 36 hours per week, with the facility having the right to call off shifts up to three times during a 13-week assignment.

• Block schedules cannot be guaranteed.
• No local candidates will be accepted within a 100-mile radius.
• Pending licenses are accepted.
