Job Summary (List Format):
- Assumes responsibility for a group of patients during assigned shifts, delivering care based on nursing process and institutional philosophy.
- Performs all unit-specific duties and responsibilities within the scope of service.
- Implements nursing procedures and theories relevant to area of practice.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date documentation of all nursing care.
- Completes initial patient assessments upon admission; develops and updates individualized care plans according to patient and family needs.
- Implements and modifies care plans, nursing interventions, and procedures as needed through continuous evaluation.
- Ensures patient and employee safety by identifying, reporting, and correcting safety hazards or incidents.
- Communicates effectively with team members and addresses issues in a direct, private manner when necessary.
- Provides constructive feedback to peers to support professional development; collaborates with colleagues to enhance knowledge base.
- Identifies own learning needs and seeks appropriate educational solutions.
- Fulfills all departmental competency requirements.
- Regularly assesses orthopedic and medical/surgical patients each shift.
- Educates orthopedic and medical/surgical patients on wound care, mobility, self-care, medication management, and care transitions.
- Coordinates patient care with physicians and surgeons.
- Delegates and monitors interventions performed by HCT staff.
- Sets up and manages orthopedic traction and surgical traction devices for mobility and wound care.
- Manages wound appliances, including wound vacs, drains, pouches, and urological devices.
- Works night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) as part of the float pool.
- Required to have Illinois RN license in good standing and BLS certification (AHA).
- Must have at least one year of relevant nursing experience; trauma level 1 and EPIC experience preferred.
- Minimum education: Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ASN); BSN preferred.
- Position requires English language proficiency (speaking, reading, writing).
