Medical Surgical/Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Overview
Join a dedicated team in a dynamic 29-bed medical-surgical oncology unit. This role involves caring for adult patients dealing with cancer, palliative care, and family education on oncological processes, including urology and telemetry patients.
Shift Information
- 36 or 48-hour contract options available.
- Night shift: 3x12, 7 PM - 7 AM
- Every other weekend required.
Responsibilities
- Provide quality nursing care to medical and surgical oncology patients.
- Monitor patient conditions and assist in the administration of therapies such as chemotherapy.
- Assist with procedures including central line draws, blood administration, PCA pumps, bone marrow aspiration, and Pleurx chest tubes.
- Offer guidance and education to patients and families regarding oncology processes.
- Ensure proper telemetry monitoring and interventions as needed.
- May float within scope to assist in meeting facility needs.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
- Current RN license in the state of practice (compact licenses accepted).
- Required certifications: BLS, ONCC/ONS.
- Experience in chemotherapy administration preferred but not mandatory.
- Skills in telemetry, central line draws, blood administration, and PCA pump management are essential.
Additional Information
- Ratios: 4-5 patients per nurse during days; 5-6 patients per nurse during nights.
- Blocked schedule requests will be accommodated when possible.
- Flu vaccine required during flu season, with exceptions for documented medical allergies.
