Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, compassionate, and patient-centered nursing care while promoting health, preventing illness and injury, and supporting patients and families throughout their care. The RN is responsible for following New York State nursing standards, facility policies, professional nursing standards, and patient rights.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, coordinate, implement, delegate, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients.
- Serve as a primary or accountable nurse based on unit assignment and patient-care needs.
- Administer medications safely and appropriately according to facility policies and established standards.
- Educate patients and families on health promotion, disease management, and available resources.
- Promote a safe, caring, and healing environment focused on patient-centered care.
- Effectively manage staffing, time, supplies, and other resources.
- Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and facility policies.
- Participate in Nursing Shared Governance, including Unit Council activities, quality-improvement initiatives, and peer-review practices.
- Participate in continuing nursing education, professional development, and required training.
- Incorporate current evidence-based practices and nursing research into patient care.
- Support a positive learning environment for new employees and nursing students.
- Follow and promote all United Health Services (UHS) values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school
- Current New York State RN License
- Current BLS Certification from AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross
- Nursing experience as required by the assigned unit
- Strong communication, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Sound clinical judgment and critical-thinking abilities
- Commitment to quality, safety, and risk management
Experience Requirements
- RN experience: 6 months–3 years as listed in the job requirements
- Management experience: 0–3 years, if applicable
- Additional direct clinical experience requirements may vary by unit.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute-care or ambulatory setting
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Professional certification in a related nursing specialty
- Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or TNCC, depending on the assigned unit
