Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking a qualified Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic healthcare team. This position involves providing high-quality nursing care to patients on a Med-Surg/Telemetry unit specializing in infusion and oncology.

Job Details

• Unit Type: Telemetry
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
• Shifts: Night shifts from 1900 to 0730
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirements: Rotational holiday coverage

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients with diverse medical conditions, including oncology and hematology cases.
• Assess patient conditions, monitor vital signs, and administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Titrate intravenous drips such as insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, octreotide, and manage blood transfusions.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Maintain patient records through the Cerner charting system and comply with regulatory requirements.
• Work alongside charge nurses and house supervisors to facilitate patient flow and safety.
• Participate in training and orientation programs as needed for unit-specific practices.

Qualifications

• Current BLS (AHA) certification required.
• Minimum of 1 year of acute care nursing experience is required.
• Experience managing complex patients and administering intravenous medications is essential.
• Preference for candidates with prior travel nursing experience.
• Must be adaptable to floating between medical-surgical units when necessary.

Unit Information

• Number of Beds: 27
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
  • Days/Evenings: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:6 (potentially higher if short-staffed)
• Nurse Aide Ratios:
  • Day/Evening: 1:7-9
  • Night: 1:14 (maximum)
• Centralized telemetry technicians will monitor patients, allowing nurses to focus on direct patient care.

Additional Information

Orientation will consist of 1 day of computer training followed by a 12-hour on-the-floor shift. While we strive for flexible scheduling, block scheduling cannot be guaranteed.
