Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, compassionate, patient-centered care while promoting health, preventing illness and injury, and supporting the overall well-being of patients and families. The RN is responsible for delivering care in accordance with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, United Health Services (UHS) policies, ANA standards, the Code of Ethics for Nurses, and the Bill of Patient Rights.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, coordinate, delegate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for assigned patients.
- Serve as the primary and/or accountable nurse based on unit assignment and patient-care needs.
- Educate patients and families on health promotion, disease management, and available resources.
- Safely administer medications in accordance with UHS policies and demonstrate appropriate pharmacology knowledge.
- Effectively utilize staffing, time, supplies, and other resources to support quality and cost-effective care.
- Maintain compliance with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and UHS policies.
- Participate in Nursing Shared Governance, Unit Council activities, quality improvement initiatives, and peer review.
- Participate in continuing nursing education, professional development, and required training.
- Incorporate current evidence and nursing research into clinical practice.
- Support the learning and development of new employees and nursing students.
- Demonstrate and uphold UHS values and standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
- Current New York State RN License.
- Current BLS Certification from AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross.
- Must meet all unit-specific requirements listed in the Compliance Matrix.
Required Skills & Experience
- RN nursing experience: 6 months–3 years.
- Management experience: 0–3 years.
- Direct clinical experience as required by the assigned unit.

- Commitment to quality, reliability, safety, and risk management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute-care or ambulatory setting.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
- Additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or TNCC, as required by the assigned unit.
