Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for a Med Surg Ortho unit. The position is primarily night shifts and offers an opportunity to care for a diverse patient population.
Position Overview
- Unit: Med Surg Ortho
- Unit Type: Medical Surgical
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience
- BLS Certification
Job Responsibilities
The RN will be responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients within the Med Surg Ortho unit. Duties include:
- Patient assessment and monitoring
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and implement care plans
- Educate patients and families regarding health management
- Participate in hourly rounding and bedside shift reporting
Patient Population
The unit serves a diverse patient demographic, including:
- Total knees
- Total hips
- Shoulder replacements
- Patients with COPD, diabetes, dementia, and various other medical conditions
Team Structure
- Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, with a ratio of 1:10
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift and will take an assignment
Scheduling and Orientation
- Shifts: 0630-1900, 1830-0700
- Self-scheduling available
- Weekend requirement: Every third weekend (Friday and Saturday)
- Orientation includes classroom sessions followed by hands-on training on the unit
Dress Code
The dress code is navy blue scrubs, and scrubs will be provided.
Additional Notes
We are looking for candidates who are flexible, self-directed, and eager to learn in a dynamic environment. The primary patient population is low to middle class, with some patients facing homelessness and mental health or addiction histories.
