Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

This position is essential for assessing the needs of each patient before and during surgical procedures while ensuring patient safety. The RN will develop individual care plans, implement, evaluate, and document care throughout surgical procedures. Additionally, this role provides leadership to the operating room team and communicates effectively with patients, families, and various departments.

Responsibilities

• Patient Care Assessment (40%): Assesses the needs of the surgical patient and develops a specific plan of care. Implements and evaluates the plan during the procedure while prioritizing patient safety.
• Room Supervision (30%): Supervises activities in the operating room, anticipates and coordinates schedule changes, assembles necessary equipment and supplies, assists anesthesia as needed, and monitors sterile field conditions.
• Communication (20%): Maintains effective communication with patients, families, physicians, OR team members, supervisors, managers, and ancillary departments.
• Staff Development (10%): Participates in staff development by attending in-services, educational meetings, staff meetings, and seminars that promote leadership and professional growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of RN experience in the operating room.
• Experience in a Level 2 Trauma center.
• Proficient in orthopedic, vascular, neurological, general/gyn, and urological procedures.
• Recent travel work experience is highly preferred.

Certification Requirements

• Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association.

Licensure

• Must possess an active Michigan RN license.
