Registered Nurse / Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This unit specializes in providing care for infants, children, and adolescents facing critical health challenges.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to pediatric patients with a variety of diagnoses, including respiratory distress, diabetic ketoacidosis, seizures, and sepsis.
• Manage patients requiring moderate sedation, continuous drips, arterial lines, and central lines.
• Perform dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
• Handle central line and PICC line management.
• Administer anti-seizure medications, continuous sedation, IV vasopressors, and pediatric dosage calculations.
• Conduct ICP monitoring and provide care for ventilated pediatric patients, including acute airways management.
• Utilize BiPAP/CPAP equipment and perform ABG interpretation and chest tube management.
• Maintain accurate charting using Cerner.

Schedule

Shifts available are 12 hours during the day or night. Expected commitment includes working weekends, with a total of five weekends scheduled within a six-week period. Availability to float to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatrics as needed is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience.
• Strong experience in dysrhythmia interpretation and management.
• Proficient in the management of central lines and PICC lines.
• Experience with pediatric medications, including anti-seizure and IV vasopressors.
• Knowledge and experience in ICP monitoring and care for ventilated patients.
• Ability to interpret ABGs and manage chest tubes.
• Must possess BCLS/BLS, PALS, and Basic EKG certifications.
• Comfortable with special equipment such as ventilators and high-flow nasal cannulas.

Additional Information

Orientation for new hires is approximately 40 hours, encompassing virtual, clinical, and on-unit training. Please note that time-off requests will be auto-approved for 14 days or less; however, certain holidays and hard-to-fill days will not allow for time away. Local candidates are welcomed.
