Job Summary:
Emergency Room (ER) Nurse position located in a high-acuity, Level I Trauma Center. This role involves providing urgent and critical care to trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and stroke patients in a fast-paced environment. The assignment requires adherence to specific protocols, including recent certifications and departmental policies.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, with a minimum of 48 hours per week. The shifts include 0700-1900, 0900-2100, 1100-2300, 1500-0300, and 1900-0700, depending on department coverage.
- Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license, certifications including BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale), TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course); minimum of 2 years of recent ER experience; Driver's license; ability to pass skills exam; compliance with fingernail policy prohibiting artificial nails; and adherence to the radius rule of 50 miles, with no full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with facilities associated with any organization linked to CommonSpirit, including CHI and Dignity.
- Preferred Qualifications: Pediatric certification (preferred, not required).
- Additional Information:
- Unit is a Level I Trauma Center, Pediatric Certified by State, and a Comprehensive Stroke Center.
- Bed capacity includes 20 beds, with 5 Trauma beds, 10 observation (OBS) beds, hallway beds, and a dedicated Fast Track with 6 beds.
- Triage features 3 beds.
- Security is in-house 24/7, with staffing for both ED physicians and mid-Level providers.
- Staffing ratios are 1:4 zones, 1:6 in Fast Track, 1:5 in OBS, and 1:1 in ICU/Trauma.
- Common diagnoses include trauma, sepsis, chest pain, shortness of breath, and strokes (TPA administered).
- RNs are required to interpret their own strips.
- Will float to OBS and Freestanding ER once a week.
- Orientation includes 1 week of onboarding, 2 shifts at Bergan, and 1 shift at UC.
- Shift and scheduling are flexible, with leadership responsible for creating the schedule.
- RTO (Reason to Occur) must be requested upfront and is limited to 7 days or less within the 13-week contract.
- Candidate must be available for shifts starting on 10/26/2026, ending on 01/25/2027.
