Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
This position is responsible for assessing and addressing the needs of patients undergoing surgical procedures in the cardiovascular operating room, while ensuring patient safety and care quality. The Registered Nurse will develop individual care plans, implement care strategies, evaluate patient responses, and provide leadership within the operating room team. Strong communication with patients, families, the surgical team, and other departments is essential.
Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment and Care Planning (40%): Assess the needs of the surgical patient and develop individualized care plans. Implement and evaluate care during procedures, making adjustments as necessary to prioritize patient safety.
- Operational Supervision (30%): Supervise activities within the surgical room. Anticipate and coordinate schedule changes. Assemble necessary equipment and supplies, assist anesthesia when needed, and monitor the sterile field.
- Effective Communication (20%): Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, the operating room team, supervisors, managers, and ancillary departments.
- Staff Development (10%): Engage in professional development activities, including attending in-services, educational meetings, staff meetings, and seminars for growth and leadership opportunities.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in the Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR).
- Experience with open heart procedures is required.
- Recent travel work history is highly preferred.
- Current Skills Checklist specific to CVOR, updated within the last year.
- Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years.
- Active Michigan RN license as verified through LARA or Nursys.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
This role includes infrequent on-call responsibilities, primarily for weekend coverage. The Registered Nurse will contribute to a collaborative environment focused on high-quality patient care within the cardiovascular surgical setting.
