Job Description:

PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center is seeking an experienced RN to provide nursing care to adult and geriatric residents in its Long-Term Care unit. This unit functions similarly to a step-down or medical-surgical unit, requiring strong clinical skills, physical stamina, and the ability to manage complex patient needs.

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct nursing care, assessments, and medication administration.
• Develop and implement patient care plans.
• Care for patients with dementia, Alzheimer's disease, CVA/stroke, Parkinson's disease, COPD, pneumonia, atrial fibrillation, and other chronic conditions.
• Perform wound assessments, dressing changes, and pressure injury prevention.
• Provide IV therapy and PICC line care as needed.
• Assist with patient transfers using Hoyer and SARA lifts.
• Manage feeding pumps and IV pumps.
• Monitor patient status, communicate changes, and follow safety protocols.
• Support admissions, discharges, and transfers to acute care.
• Float within the health system as needed.

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience preferred.
• Nursing home, skilled nursing facility (SNF), LTC, medical-surgical, or home health experience required.
• Active Alaska RN license or proof of license application as applicable.
• Current BLS certification required.
• Epic experience, preferably at least 1 year.
• Previous travel experience preferred; first-time travelers accepted.
• Ability to perform physical patient care and assist with mechanical lifts.

Unit Details:

• Patient ratio: 1:8 on days and 1:13 on nights.
• Unit capacity: 29 beds.
• Patient population: Adults and geriatrics.
• Charting: Epic.
• Scrubs: Blue, provided by the facility for LTC.
• Floating: Required, though described as very rare.
• Local candidates are not accepted.
• Free onsite parking.
• Flu vaccination required; medical or religious exemptions only.

Important: This is a physically demanding LTC assignment with a higher-acuity, step-down-style workflow. The facility does not accept tracheostomy patients, TPN, BiPAP, or acute rehabilitation cases.
