L&D Registered Nurse (RN)
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated L&D Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Labor and Delivery team. The ideal candidate will provide excellent care to obstetric patients and their newborns while adhering to quality metrics and clinical guidelines.
Shift Information
- Shift Type: Nights
- Guaranteed Hours: 48 hours per week
- Weekend Requirements: Every third weekend
- Holiday Requirements: Every other holiday
- Floating Requirements: May float to MedSurg and ER as needed
- Orientation: 3 shifts of unit/department specific orientation
Unit Information
- Total L&D Beds: 15 (7 L&D, 8 Postpartum)
- Operating Room Suites for C-Sections: 1
- Births per Month: Approximately 58
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:1 for pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips; 1:3 for couplet care
Key Responsibilities
- Read and interpret fetal strips with proficiency.
- Titrate medications as necessary, including pitocin, insulin, and magnesium.
- Follow established AWHONN guidelines for patient care.
- Provide quality couplet care to mothers and their newborns.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in the unit.
- Demonstrate critical thinking and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as an L&D RN.
- Required Certifications: BLS Certification, Intermediate Fetal Monitoring.
- Preferred Certifications: ACLS, NRP, STABLE.
- Ability to float within skillset as needed.
- Experience with reading and interpreting fetal strips is essential.
Additional Information
Nurses are supported by nursing aids and surgical techs for vital signs and patient care tasks. Anesthesia and Neonatology support are not available onsite 24/7. Adaptive communication skills and a strong foundation in critical thinking are essential for success in this role.
