Cardiac Catheterization Lab Registered Nurse (RN)
Facility Information
Located in City, State, the facility is a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and serves as a Primary Stroke Center.
General Information
- Number of Cath Labs: 4 rooms
- Travelers with 1 year of experience in interventional Cath Lab are accepted.
- First-time travelers are welcomed.
- Lead available for use if traveler does not have their own.
Patient Types
Required experience includes:
- STEMI/NSTEMI
- LHC/RHC
- CHF
- Angina
- ACS
- Afib
- IABP/Impella
- CTOs
- Staged/protected PCI
- Pericardiocentesis
- Temporary pacers
Experience in Electrophysiology (EP) and vascular procedures is not required but would be beneficial. Patient volume averages 20-25 per day.
Required Certifications
- BLS
- ACLS
Skills Required
- Experience managing patients as previously listed.
- Groin site management and experience with radial band management (VascBand).
- Ability to administer moderate sedation and titrate drips.
- Familiarity with emergency drugs and efficient use of defibrillators/pacers.
- Ability to recognize rhythm changes and determine the appropriate anticoagulant administration.
- Comfortable with addressing ventilator alarms.
- Training provided for monitoring if there for more than one assignment.
Unit Support
Support available includes:
- Cath Lab Coordinator/Supervisor for room assignments and management.
- Respiratory Therapists available 24/7.
- Hospitalist available 24/7.
- Cardiologist on call.
- Rapid Response/Code Team support.
- Transporter available during the day.
Technology and Equipment
- EMR: Cerner
- Hemodynamic Monitoring System: XPER (Phillips system)
- PACS: IntellaSpace
- IV Pumps: Plum 360
- Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
- Other equipment (experience not required): Medtronic ACT machine, Rotapro, CSI, Shockwave, Laser, Rotablator, FFR, IVUS.
Orientation
Orientation consists of 24 hours of classroom time for travelers new to the facility, followed by 1-3 shifts on unit orientation based on traveler comfort. Returning travelers may require less orientation depending on their last date of service.
Scheduling
Shift hours are from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM, and all staff work three 12-hour shifts. Weekend rotation includes on-call every fourth weekend. A 30-minute response time is expected for call notifications.
- Approval for time off is managed through the unit manager.
- Holiday expectations include being on call for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per contract.
