Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Description
A Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Behavioral Health is needed for a dynamic role focusing on the care of patients with mental health challenges. This position entails working at multiple locations and requires flexibility to float across various units catering to different age groups.
Responsibilities
- Provide care for acute psychiatric patients suffering from major mental health illnesses, and chronic behaviors, including violence, aggression, mania, and self-harm.
- Adhere to established protocols for patient care, including competency in the use of restraints.
- Conduct assessments and develop care plans tailored to individual needs.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to implement treatment plans.
- Manage fluctuating nurse-to-patient ratios, ensuring optimal care delivery.
Schedule
- Shift: Monday to Friday, Nights 11 pm - 7 am
- 40 hours per week with no on-call requirements.
- Every other weekend work is mandatory.
Unit Information
- Bed Sizes:
- Geriatric: 12 beds
- Adolescent: 12 beds
- Adult: 24 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Can vary from 1:4 to 1:6 depending on the unit and shift.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 months of experience in a psychiatric/behavioral health capacity.
- Experience in utilizing EPIC electronic medical records is required.
- Inpatient experience is highly preferred.
- Experience working with adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations is required.
- Active Iowa nursing license or compact/multistate license at the time of submission is required.
- Preferred: Current de-escalation certification (MOAB or CPI), which can be obtained during onboarding.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from AHA or American Red Cross is required.
Holiday Requirements
Candidates may be required to work 1-2 of the following upcoming holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, unless the unit is closed.
