Psychiatric RN Travel Job Details

• Location: Franklin, Indiana
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,910–$2,010
• Assignment Type: 13-week psychiatric nursing travel contract
• Start Date: November 23, 2026
• End Date: February 22, 2027
• Schedule: Three 12-hour night shifts per week
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Healthcare Setting: 29-bed acute behavioral health unit
• Shift Hours: Approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
• Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:6 on days and 1:6–8 on nights
• Electronic Medical Record: Cerner
• Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
• Orientation: One day of general orientation plus approximately three department orientation shifts

Psychiatric Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Indiana
• At least one year of psychiatric nursing or acute behavioral health nursing experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Experience caring for adult, pediatric, geriatric, or dual-diagnosis behavioral health patients is welcomed
• Prior charge nurse or charge-relief experience preferred
• Strong psychiatric assessment, crisis de-escalation, therapeutic communication, and medication administration skills
• Ability to actively participate in the treatment environment and collaborate with behavioral health professionals, technicians, social workers, security, and leadership
• Flexibility to support modified self-scheduling, weekend and holiday rotations, and the evolving needs of a new behavioral health unit

Psychiatric RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care for adults in an acute behavioral health setting
• Complete psychiatric and medical assessments, monitor patient status, and respond to changing clinical needs
• Lead or participate in therapeutic nursing groups and contribute to individualized treatment planning
• Administer medications, complete medication passes, and address patients’ medical needs
• Use therapeutic communication and crisis de-escalation techniques to promote patient and staff safety
• Follow facility protocols for soft restraints, hard restraints, and seclusion when clinically indicated
• Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary behavioral health team to support recovery and a structured therapeutic milieu
• Maintain active visibility and engagement on the unit while supporting patients and colleagues
• Assist with phlebotomy or blood draws when needed; phlebotomy support is available
• Provide charge coverage or relief when assigned and help establish effective workflows within the new behavioral health unit
