Psychiatric Registered Nurse Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license
• At least 1 year of recent behavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience
• Ability to provide nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
• Willingness to remain flexible regarding assignments across shifts and behavioral health units
• Strong patient assessment, therapeutic communication, de-escalation, and crisis-management skills
• Commitment to maintaining patient safety, dignity, and confidentiality

Behavioral Health RN Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive psychiatric nursing care to patients in adolescent, adult, and geriatric behavioral health units
• Complete nursing assessments, develop and update individualized care plans, and monitor patient progress
• Administer medications safely and evaluate patients for therapeutic response and adverse effects
• Support patients experiencing major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and other behavioral health conditions
• Recognize changes in mental and physical status and communicate concerns promptly to the interdisciplinary care team
• Use therapeutic communication and evidence-based de-escalation techniques to promote a safe environment
• Collaborate with providers, therapists, and other clinical professionals to coordinate patient-centered behavioral health care
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and follow all applicable behavioral health and safety protocols
