Stepdown Registered Nurse

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Stepdown Registered Nurse to join our team in a dynamic and supportive environment. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care to patients in a progressive care unit, specifically focusing on cardiology. This position requires a commitment to patient care, teamwork, and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in a stepdown unit, managing a variety of cardiovascular conditions.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry readings, as well as assess vital signs and health status of patients.
• Administer medications and IV drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, and lasix.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to create comprehensive patient care plans.
• Participate in daily rounds and provide updates on patient progress to the healthcare team.
• Assist with the management of cardiac devices, including pacemakers and AICDs.
• Provide education to patients and families regarding treatment plans and care protocols.
• Participate in hospital committees and initiatives aimed at improving patient care quality.

Qualifications

• Current nursing license in the state of practice.
• 2 years of experience in a stepdown or progressive care setting, including cardiac care.
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), NIHSS.
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips and respond appropriately.
• Experience with BiPap and CPAP is preferred; must have a basic understanding of ventilator management.

Shift Information

• Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
• Every other weekend required.
• Must be flexible to work holidays and shifts around holiday periods.

Unit Information

• 44 beds with a ratio of 1 nurse to every 5 patients.
• Fast turnover of rooms; the average census ranges from 32-38 patients.
• Common diagnoses include post-operative CABG, CHF, and various cardiovascular surgeries.
• Units are equipped with telemetry monitoring systems and the nursing staff is supported by a 24/7 pharmacy and respiratory therapy team.

Additional Information

• Must adhere to the dress code requirements, including natural hair color and no visible tattoos or facial piercings.
• Orientation to the unit will consist of three shifts.
• Willingness to float to ICU as needed, under certain conditions.
