Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Oncology Registered Nurse to join our team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The oncology unit consists of 29 beds, primarily focusing on acute oncology symptoms, hematology, and end-of-life care.
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Experience Required: 1 year in a related specialty with at least 1 travel assignment
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holidays: Rotate with staff
Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care for patients with acute oncology symptoms, including thrombocytopenia and neutropenia.
- Monitor patient vital signs and maintain central telemetry.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement effective care plans.
- Complete floor-specific orientation and training for new hires.
- Be prepared to float to medical acute as needed, though this is rare.
Qualifications
- Certifications Required: BLS (AHA), NIHSS preferred
- Additional Certifications: Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification recommended for chemotherapy administration (requires 2 years of experience in specialty)
- Experience: A minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in oncology
Additional Information
- The nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:5, with occasional adjustments to 1:6.
- Nurse aides are available, usually 3 per day, to assist with patient care duties.
- Scrub color is Caribbean Blue.
- Orientation on the floor lasts for 3 days to ensure familiarity with processes and staff.
- Outpatient oncology patients may finish their treatments on the floor if necessary.
