Medical Surgical / Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Surgical / Telemetry Registered Nurse to join our team. This role involves providing top-quality care to patients with various cardiac conditions and observation needs.

Responsibilities

• Manage care for patients with acute myocardial infarction, unstable angina, congestive heart failure, unstable arrhythmias, and other cardiac disorders.
• Provide post-operative care for surgical patients, including those requiring cardioversion, thoracentesis, bone marrow biopsy, chest tube insertion, central line insertion, and paracentesis.
• Administer required drips such as heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine, and nitroglycerin.
• Attend to adult and geriatric patient populations in a 39-bed environment, which includes both inpatient and observation units.
• Supervise and support LPNs and assist with their patients when ratios increase.
• Participate in high-turnaround patient care, ensuring a quality experience within a 36-hour observation period.
• Be flexible to float within scope as needed.

Schedule

This position requires working 3x12 or 4x12 shifts during nights from 7 PM to 7 AM, including weekdays and every other weekend. Orientation occurs bi-weekly on Thursdays, and weekend shifts are mandatory.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience and at least 1 year of experience in a specialty setting.
• Certifications in BLS/BCLS are required; ACLS is preferred.
• A valid RN license in WV or a Compact state is required.
• Must have recent experience in post cath and post angiogram PTCA care.

Work Environment

The working environment includes a Level IV Trauma Center with a total of 838 staffed beds. Nurses will be expected to work with an electronic charting system (Cerner) and will benefit from free parking for staff.

Special Requirements

Due to the nature of the unit, candidates must be comfortable with a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:5 and be prepared for a potential increase to 6 or 7 patients in cases of staff shortages.

Health and Safety Compliance

Candidates must provide documentation for flu vaccination, which is required during the flu season (October 1st - March 31st) unless a medical exemption is provided. The COVID-19 vaccine is not mandatory for employment.
