Medical Surgical - Neuro Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Medical Surgical - Neuro Registered Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality care to patients with various neurological conditions, primarily focusing on stroke and potential neurosurgery patients.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year of direct MedSurg experience.
- Must have completed at least 2 successful contracts as a traveling nurse.
- Local candidates are welcome to apply.
Required Skills and Certifications
- IV start and telemetry skills.
- Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias.
- Experience with Med/Surg neurological conditions.
- Certifications: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS. ACLS certification is preferred but not required.
Preferred Skills
- ACLS certification.
Job Details
- Patient-to-nurse ratio: 1:6.
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15).
- Scheduling: Must work every other weekend, with float requirements to other Med/Surg/Tele areas as needed.
- Frequent floating may include COVID care units.
Patient Demographics
The unit primarily cares for stroke patients, as well as those with neurological diagnoses such as epilepsy, and traumatic or non-traumatic subdural hematomas.
Unit Details
- 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) with training for nurses in the EMU specialty.
- Daily census of approximately 42 patients.
- Unit systems in use include PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR.
Orientation and Attire
- Orientation period: 36 hours.
- Required attire: Navy scrubs.
Additional Notes
- All candidates must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
- Block scheduling may not be guaranteed.
- Must have a strong background in Med/Surg nursing.
