Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Missouri
• At least 1 year of bedside clinical nursing experience required; 2 or more years preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required before the first shift
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required before the first shift
• Strong communication, clinical judgment, organization, and teamwork skills
• Ability to work independently and effectively during 12-hour night shifts

Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Responsibilities

• Complete comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized plans of care.
• Provide direct patient care using the nursing process, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Monitor patient conditions, recognize changes in status, and promptly communicate pertinent information to the appropriate care team members.
• Document assessments, interventions, patient responses, and progress accurately and in a timely manner.
• Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment plans, medications, safety, and discharge needs.
• Initiate discharge planning upon admission and support continuity of care throughout the patient stay.
• Delegate appropriately and provide direction, training, and supervision to nursing support staff.
• Promote patient and workplace safety by following infection prevention, safe-handling, fall-prevention, and other applicable procedures.
• Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support quality outcomes and patient-centered care.
• Prioritize assignments, manage time effectively, maintain unit readiness, and contribute to a positive team environment.
• Participate in professional development and assume charge responsibilities after orientation when requested.
