Med/Surg RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Illinois; Illinois licensure is required for submission
• At least 2 years of recent Medical-Surgical or postoperative nursing experience preferred
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Recent experience caring for postoperative, orthopedic, podiatry, and general medical patients
• Ability to care for patients with conditions and therapies such as diabetes, peripheral neuropathy, congestive heart failure, COPD, cellulitis, continuous bladder irrigation, surgical drains, and wound vacs
• Comfort working with telemetry patients; monitor technicians and tele nurses provide centralized monitoring and validation
• Willingness to float to ICU or Telemetry for Med/Surg overflow within demonstrated scope of practice
• Strong communication, organization, teamwork, and clinical judgment skills

Travel RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to adult medical-surgical and postoperative patients
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments, administer medications, implement care plans, and evaluate patient progress
• Care for patients recovering from general, orthopedic, and podiatric procedures
• Manage surgical drains, wound vacs, continuous bladder irrigation, and other postoperative needs
• Monitor patients receiving BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, or Vapotherm in collaboration with Respiratory Therapy
• Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate provider or clinical leader
• Collaborate with nursing assistants, monitor technicians, respiratory therapists, providers, and other members of the care team
• Float to designated units as needed while accepting assignments appropriate to training and scope of practice
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record and support a positive patient experience
