Registered Nurse (RN) - Diabetes Medical Care Unit
Job Description
The Diabetes Medical Care Unit is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic team. This role requires flexibility as floating to various units within the Medical-Surgical division is essential, with travelers expected to float first. Weekend and holiday coverage is required, but there is no on-call obligation.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to patients within the Diabetes Medical Care Unit.
- Administer and manage insulin drips and monitor patient responses.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to plan and implement patient care.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record system.
- Participate in patient education and support efforts.
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida or a compact license.
- Minimum of 2 years of specialty experience in a related field.
- Prior travel nursing experience with at least one completed assignment is required.
- Experience with insulin drips is essential for this position.
- Proficient in using EPIC electronic health record system; EPIC training is required during orientation.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Orientation and Training
Orientation sessions are held every Monday. During orientation, participants will undergo EPIC training in the second half of the day. There will be an opportunity to test out of this training. If the test is not passed, the full EPIC training must be completed prior to being assigned to the unit.
Nurse-Patient Ratio
The nurse-to-patient ratio is approximately 1:5-6 on each shift, ensuring quality care and support for our patients.
Work Environment
This unit is part of a comprehensive trauma and stroke center, providing advanced medical care in a supportive and collaborative environment. The facility boasts 772 beds, with the unit comprising 30-35 beds/suites.
