Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical - Neuro

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse with a focus on Medical Surgical - Neuro. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in managing diverse patient diagnoses, particularly in neurology and stroke care. This role requires adaptability, teamwork, and a commitment to patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for patients with various neurological conditions, including stroke, epilepsy, and other neuro diagnoses.
• Monitor vital signs, assess patient conditions, and implement care plans as directed.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Perform intravenous (IV) starts and interpret telemetry readings.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Participate in the educational process for patients and their families regarding disease management and treatment plans.
• Float to other medical/surgical and telemetry units as needed, which may include exposure to COVID care units.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year of direct Medical Surgical experience.
• Previous traveler experience, with a requirement of a minimum of 2 successful contracts.
• Current certifications: BCLS, NIHSS, and NIH.
• Strong skills in IV insertion, telemetry interpretation, and management of dysrhythmias.

Preferred Qualifications

• ACLS certification is preferred, but not required.

Unit Details

• Patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:6.
• Shifts available are 12-hour night shifts.
• The unit provides care primarily for stroke patients, as well as neurosurgery patients and various neurological conditions.
• Orientation for new hires is 36 hours.
• This unit also features a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).

Additional Information

• Travelers are expected to work every other weekend.
• Weekend call-offs may require the traveler to make up missed shifts based on unit needs.
• Scrubs are navy in color.
