Travel Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift Contract in Hickory, NC

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,570–$1,650
• Location: Hickory, North Carolina
• Assignment Type: 12-week medical-surgical travel nursing contract
• Start Date: October 26, 2026
• End Date: January 18, 2027
• Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m.
• Schedule: Alternating 3 shifts one week and 4 shifts the next; every third weekend
• Hours: Approximately 36 hours per week
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:6
• Openings: 2
• Orientation: 16 hours
• Required Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Dress Code: Grape purple scrubs

Med/Surg Registered Nurse Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or a valid Compact RN license
• At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Experience caring for adult and geriatric patients
• Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and time-management skills
• Ability to work night shifts, alternating 3- and 4-shift weeks, and scheduled weekend coverage
• Comfort working as a medical-surgical float nurse across multiple units

Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric medical-surgical patients.
• Float among medical-surgical departments as assigned, excluding critical care, psychiatric, and rehabilitation units.
• Assess patients, develop and implement individualized nursing care plans, and evaluate outcomes.
• Administer medications and treatments safely while monitoring for changes in patient condition.
• Provide care involving telemetry, oxygen therapy, IVs, central lines, feeding tubes, surgical drains, wound care, and other common medical-surgical needs.
• Collaborate with respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology, rehabilitation, laboratory, social services, rapid response teams, and other interdisciplinary care team members.
• Document patient care accurately and communicate effectively during handoffs and care transitions.
• Respond promptly to changes in patient status and participate in emergency and rapid-response interventions when needed.
