Cath Lab / Special Procedures Registered Nurse

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Cath Lab and Special Procedures team. The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience in Critical Care, Cath Lab, or Special Procedures and be comfortable working across cardiac, structural heart, electrophysiology, and interventional radiology procedures.

The role may include monitoring, sedation nursing, and, when applicable, scrubbing responsibilities.

Department Information

  • Department: Cath Lab / Special Procedures
  • Number of Suites: 6
  • Suite Configuration:
    • 1 dedicated EP bi-plane suite
    • 2 Hybrid suites located in a separate OR
    • 2 Cath Lab suites
    • 1 IR suite
  • Staffing Model: Teams of 4
  • Minimum Staffing: At least 1 RN per Cath Lab
  • EMR/Systems: EPIC CUPID and McKesson, with minimal documentation entries
  • Dress Code: Hospital-provided scrub attire
  • Floating: No floating to other departments

Key Roles & Responsibilities

The RN may function in the following roles:

  • Monitor Nurse
  • Sedation Nurse
  • Scrub Nurse — optional, based on experience and department needs

The RN will support a broad range of cardiac, structural heart, EP, and interventional radiology procedures.

Cardiac Cath Lab Procedures

  • Diagnostic left and right heart catheterizations
  • Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI)
  • Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO)
  • Impella procedures
  • IABP procedures

Structural Heart Procedures

  • TAVR
  • Watchman
  • Mitral Clip
  • PFO closures
  • ASD closures

Electrophysiology (EP)

EP responsibilities are limited to scrubbing and panning. Procedures include:

  • EP studies
  • Device implant procedures

Interventional Radiology Procedures

The department performs a wide range of IR procedures, including:

  • Peripheral interventions
  • Endoluminal grafts
  • Carotid stents
  • Critical Limb Ischemia (CLI) procedures
  • Stroke interventions
  • TIPS/DIPS
  • Embolization
  • Thrombolysis
  • Nephrostomy and biliary drainage tubes
  • Port placement
  • IVC filter procedures

Required Qualifications & Certifications

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Critical Care, Cath Lab, or Special Procedures
  • Current Oregon Registered Nurse license required
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Strong cardiac and/or special procedures experience preferred
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based procedural environment

Schedule & Call Requirements

  • Schedule: Monday–Friday
  • Four 10-hour shifts per week
  • Weeknight call: 1–2 nights per week
  • Weekend call: 1 weekend per month
  • Due to staffing needs, mandatory shifts may occasionally be required. Travelers are expected to participate in mandatory staffing requirements when applicable.

Orientation & Training

  • Up to 1 week of department-specific orientation with another experienced nurse
  • Orientation may include participation in call
  • After orientation, staff will work independently based on their knowledge, experience, and demonstrated competency across various specialties and roles
  • Initial orientation includes training on the medical record systems as well as departmental and hospital workflows

Asante Assignment Requirements & Important Information

  • Local candidates are not accepted.
  • A 50-mile radius restriction applies.
  • The facility may call off or cancel up to 24 hours per 13-week assignment period.
  • The first work week includes 12 hours of non-billable orientation.
  • Guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation.
  • Non-Oregon licensed RNs may apply and may be eligible for a 90-day temporary Oregon license if their permanent Oregon license is not posted before the assignment start date.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a highly adaptable procedural RN with experience in Critical Care, Cath Lab, or Special Procedures. Candidates should be comfortable with cardiac and vascular interventions, sedation, monitoring, and working within a multidisciplinary procedural team. Experience across multiple specialties and procedural roles is highly valued.
