Job Description
The Registered Nurse in Labor and Delivery will perform full head-to-toe assessments on patients, including reassessments according to policy. The role involves assessing and reassessing pain using appropriate evaluation methods, utilizing pain management techniques, and educating patients and families on effective pain management. The RN will develop and revise patient care plans based on responses to treatment and evaluate plans daily for effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient care responsibilities based on age-specific needs according to established standards of care.
- Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan to provide appropriate care.
- Administer medications correctly, adhering to the five medication rights to minimize potential errors.
- Formulate and activate teaching plans based on the learning needs of the patient and family, evaluating the effectiveness of this learning.
- Perform necessary technical and manual skills safely and efficiently.
- Maintain respect and dignity towards patients and families, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
- Identify and address the psychosocial needs of patients and families, coordinating with Care Coordination for discharge plans.
- Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
- Maintain flexibility and organization while functioning in stressful situations.
Required Experience
- 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience.
- Postpartum and nursery experience.
Certifications/Licensure
- ACLS (AHA) - Required.
- BLS (AHA) - Required.
- NRP - Required.
- Active RN license in Ohio or a compact license at the time of submission.
