Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Abilene, Texas

Experienced Labor and Delivery (L&D) Registered Nurses can join a dedicated maternal-newborn care team in Abilene, TX. This 13-week travel nurse contract is ideal for an RN passionate about supporting patients and newborns through labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care.

Travel Nursing Job Details

• Contract Type: 13-week Labor and Delivery travel nursing contract
• Start Date: November 16, 2026
• Contract End Date: February 15, 2027
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,040–$2,150
• Schedule: Three 12-hour day shifts per week
• Shift Duration: 12 hours
• Shift Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
• Hours per Week: 36
• Call: Rare call may be assigned during periods of low census
• Orientation: Approximately 36 hours
• Weekend Coverage: Weekend rotation may be required

Labor and Delivery RN Job Requirements

• Active Registered Nurse license in hand and eligibility to practice in Texas
• At least 2 years of recent Labor and Delivery nursing experience; 3 years preferred
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred; first-time travel nurses are welcome to apply
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications
• AWHONN training or certification appropriate for Labor and Delivery practice
• Demonstrated competency in fetal monitoring, labor assessment, delivery support, and postpartum recovery
• Ability to adapt to electronic health record systems and complete required compliance items promptly
• Flexibility to float to another unit or nearby campus when needed

Labor and Delivery RN Responsibilities

• Provide safe, compassionate nursing care to patients during antepartum, labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum periods
• Monitor maternal and fetal status using external and internal fetal monitoring, NSTs, and related assessments
• Recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, pregnancy-induced hypertension, hemorrhage, and other high-risk conditions
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, Cesarean sections, high-risk deliveries, forceps or vacuum-assisted deliveries, and obstetric procedures
• Administer and monitor medications and therapies including oxytocin, magnesium sulfate, insulin, anticoagulants, antihypertensives, antiseizure medications, and blood products
• Provide newborn assessment and stabilization, APGAR scoring, thermoregulation, identification and security procedures, and transition support
• Support breastfeeding, discharge teaching, car seat education, newborn care education, and family-centered care
• Perform accurate assessments, medication administration, documentation, IV management, catheter care, and wound or perineal care
• Collaborate with physicians, midwives, anesthesia, respiratory services, rapid response teams, radiology, social services, and other members of the care team
• Maintain flexibility with assignments, including floating to another unit or campus when operational needs require
