Job Summary
The Minneapolis, MN area is seeking an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) Registered Nurse to serve as an ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) Specialist. This position involves providing specialized care and managing ECMO therapy, including circuit setup, patient monitoring, and troubleshooting, to support critically ill patients requiring advanced life support.

Job Details

  • Certifications, Education Requirements, Degree Requirements, Location Requirements, and Years of Experience: Minimum of an Associates or Bachelors Degree in Nursing from an accredited program, active RN license, and at least 1 year of ECMO Specialist experience.
  • Schedule: Day shift, 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week.
  • Duties and Responsibilities: Assist physicians and clinical staff with initiation, maintenance, and discontinuation of ECMO therapy, managing up to three circuits if managing only one patient, ensuring circuit integrity, and responding promptly to emergent situations. Manage mechanical support devices such as Impella, IABP, and VADs. Conduct assessments and adjust equipment to optimize circuit function, monitor laboratory values including blood gases and anticoagulation, and maintain detailed documentation according to protocols. Participate in quality improvement, research activities, and multidisciplinary conferences related to ECMO therapy.
  • Additional Information: Must participate in mandatory ECMO competency trainings and stay current with ongoing education through journal articles and conferences.
