Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Step Down Units is sought for a healthcare facility located in Omaha, Nebraska. This position entails delivering high-quality patient care in a 12-hour night shift setting within a medical-surgical environment. The role involves managing adult patients requiring close monitoring and stabilization, with ongoing collaboration with interdisciplinary team members to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Job Details:

  • Shift: Night shifts, 12 hours (6:30 PM 7:00 AM), with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Certifications and Education Requirements: BLS (American Heart Association), ACLS; minimum of 2 years of relevant experience required.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid license to practice as a registered nurse, at least 1 year of recent experience in step down or similar units, and current certifications as listed above.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with adult patient populations and prior step down unit experience.
  • Float: Float rotation may be required; float assignments will remain within the same level of care.
  • Orientation: Two days of unit-specific orientation provided.
  • Drip & Skills: Ability to titrate Insulin and Cardizem drips; familiarity with common medications such as chemotherapy agents, Heparin, Cardizem, and Protonix.
  • Respiratory Equipment: High-flow oxygen devices, BiPAP machines, and ventilators are commonly encountered.
  • Equipment: EMR system used is Epic. IV pumps include Alaris.
  • Support Staff: Nursing assistants, charge nurse, physical/occupational therapists, case manager, social worker, educator, and dietitian support the team.
  • Patient Experience Focus: Hourly rounding and bedside shift reports ensure quality patient care.
  • Team Culture: Emphasis on genuine care, positive attitude, teamwork, and respect for a diverse patient population.
  • Additional Information: Candidates must pass an open book exam on skills learned during orientation with a score of 90% to qualify for the position. A drivers license is required for determination of geographic eligibility; artificial nails are prohibited, and chemotherapy certification is preferred but not mandatory.
