Job Summary
Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN) in Alaska is responsible for providing specialized inpatient recovery care for patients emerging from anesthesia. This role involves monitoring vital signs, managing patient pain levels, and ensuring smooth transfer to appropriate care settings. The position requires providing high-quality post-operative care within a busy, level II trauma acute hospital environment.
Job Details
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week, starting on 09/28/2026 and ending on 12/28/2026.
- Required Qualifications: Alaska RN license in hand; BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications; minimum 1 year of clinical experience in a PACU or related setting.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience with inpatient care, phase I post-anesthesia recovery, arterial line management, dysrhythmia recognition/management, blood product administration, central line care/management, IV vasopressors, narcotics/opioid analgesics, reversal agents, external ventricular drain (EVD) management, ICP monitoring, ventilated patient care, conscious sedation, Post-epidural management, general anesthesia, local anesthesia, Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC), nerve blocks, spinal anesthesia, malignant hyperthermia protocol, pain assessment & management, PCA pump management, RASS, and pediatric PACU experience.
- On-Call Requirement: One call shift per week, primarily overnight (10:30 PM 7:00 AM), plus either one Saturday night or one Sunday night call shift. Nurses must be able to arrive at the hospital within 30 minutes of call. Call sleep rooms are available; some day shifts may also require on-call.
- Float Coverage: May float within scope to similar units as needed.
- Additional Information:
- The patient census averages 40 patients daily, including neonates, infants, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
- The unit is equipped to handle complex post-operative patients and requires experienced nurses familiar with diverse procedures and equipment.
- RTO requests are considered on an individual basis; all scheduling requests should be included during submittal.
- References covering the last 1 year are required.
