Job Description

Vail Valley Surgery Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room / Perioperative to provide safe, compassionate, and individualized care to adult surgical patients.

The OR RN is responsible for planning, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating direct and indirect nursing care throughout the perioperative process, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care. The RN may function in a scrub, circulating, or combined role, based on department needs and experience.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with surgeons, providers, anesthesia, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team to promote patient safety, quality outcomes, and patient satisfaction.
 

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to surgical patients and their families.
  • Perform preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative assessments.
  • Function effectively in circulating and/or scrub roles as assigned.
  • Assist with surgical procedures and patient care activities.
  • Monitor patient condition and recognize changes requiring intervention.
  • Administer medications and perform treatments according to established standards.
  • Coordinate patient care with physicians, Vail Health departments, and other healthcare providers.
  • Prioritize patient needs and demonstrate strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills.
  • Provide patient and family education.
  • Assist with patient flow and coordinate care to optimize safety and satisfaction.
  • Delegate appropriately in accordance with Colorado regulations.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision when appropriate.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance and follow patient safety and infection-control standards.
  • Advocate for patient preferences, safety, and effective communication.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of OR / Perioperative RN experience
  • Active Colorado RN license or valid compact RN license
  • Previous travel experience may be required depending on the department
  • Strong assessment, prioritization, delegation, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Experience providing perioperative nursing care to adult patients

Required Certifications

  • BLS – Basic Life Support
  • ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • RN State License
  • Core Mandatory Exam – Nursing
  • Core Mandatory Part I
  • Core Mandatory Part II – Nursing
  • Core Mandatory Part III
  • RN – Pharmacology A
  • RN – Operating Room (OR) / Perioperative – Adult
  • RN – Operating Room Acute A
  • RN – Operating Room – Acute (Self)

Floating Requirement

Floating is expected. Agency/travel staff may be floated within their scope of practice to other like units based on operational needs.

Additional Requirement

CAPS Requirement: Agencies must complete the required Colorado CAPS registration. The process may take up to two weeks, so applicants should apply as soon as possible.
