Job Summary:
Operating Room (OR) specialty position in a Level I trauma acute care hospital. The role involves providing surgical nursing care within a fast-paced environment, supporting all service lines except cardiovascular. Candidates will perform a variety of surgical procedures, work with specialized equipment, and adhere to strict clinical protocols to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 3x12 shifts, from 10:45 AM to 11:15 PM, totaling 36 hours per week, starting 09/14/2026 and ending 12/14/2026.
  • Required Qualifications: Minimum of 2.5 years of experience as an operating room nurse; active Illinois nursing license or in application process; BLS certification required; CNOR certification preferred; trauma level I experience required; required surgical case experience includes laparoscopic assisted cases, general surgery procedures (e.g., appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repair), neurology cases (e.g., cervical fusion, craniotomy), orthopedic cases (e.g., arthroscopy, fracture reduction), plastic surgery (e.g., free flap), transplant procedures, urology (e.g., nephrectomy), trauma (e.g., GSW, MVC injuries), and emergency management skills (e.g., code response, fire safety, malignant hyperthermia).
  • Preferred Qualifications: Cerner experience is preferred.
  • Additional Information: Candidate must be prepared to work with all service lines except cardiovascular. Flexibility to float within scope is rare but may be required within skill set. This position involves on-call duty once a week, including working 2 of the 3 major holidays. The role requires strict adherence to safety protocols and familiarity with surgical equipment such as electrosurgical units and Hana tables.
