Job Summary:
Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in telemetry is needed for a medical surgical unit located in Omaha, Nebraska. This role involves providing patient care on a busy 4th floor neuro-medical unit, with a focus on neurological patients including strokes, neurosurgery post-operative care, and other Med Surg/Tele patients. The position requires adaptability, teamwork, and excellent patient care skills.
Job Details:
- Shift: Nights, 12 hours shifts, scheduled from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM with a minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: BLS (American Heart Association), NIHSS certification; 2 years minimum experience; license to submit; willingness to work in Omaha, NE; candidates must be within 50 miles and have a drivers license; no travel experience required but preferred
- Department: Med Surg Neuro - 4th Floor North
- Patients: Neurological deficits, stroke, post-neurosurgery, joint replacements, fractures, COPD exacerbation, colon resections, GI bleeds, sepsis, trauma, pneumonia, failure to thrive
- Responsibilities: Managing patient care including titrating drips like Heparin, Lidocaine, and Ketamine; interpreting telemetry strips; responding to hourly rounding; managing admissions/discharges efficiently; working collaboratively within a team; providing compassionate patient-centered care
- Staffing & Procedures: Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6; nurse aides/patient care techs present with ratios of 1:10-20; charge nurses take assignments; float to other Med Surg units; scrub color navy blue; two days of unit-specific orientation; tele monitors interpreted by techs, with nurses alert to tele awareness
- Additional Info: Mechanical lifts available in some rooms; emphasis on responsiveness and teamwork; fluency with EPIC charting system; rotating weekend and holiday shifts; cancellation policy allows up to 4 shifts per 13-week contract
