Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Surgical Nursing position available in a healthcare facility. The role involves providing specialized patient care to post-surgical, trauma, and complex cases within a 13-bed ICU setting, with a focus on critical patient management, titrating drips, and interpreting telemetry strips. This short-term assignment requires a highly skilled RN with ICU experience.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week, from 08/31/2026 to 11/30/2026
- Required Qualifications: Valid active Illinois license or confirmation that an application process has been initiated; Certifications in BLS and ACLS (AHA); minimum of 1 year ICU surgical experience; relevant experience includes ICU, trauma, post-surgical, open abdomens, multi-system trauma, and endovascular patients; ability to titrate drips such as pressors, sedation, paralytics, and insulin.

- Float: Float rotation may be required; travelers floated to lower levels of care will take a full team.

- Department: Surgical Intensive Care Unit with 13 beds, patient ratios typically 1:2, occasionally 1:1 or 1:3.
- Nurse: Patient ratios generally 1:2, with duties including reading strips, interpreting telemetry, and titrating drips.
- Nursing staff include nurse aides/patient care techs, with a 1:10 ratio on the unit.
- Team includes in-house hospitalists and intensivists 24/7, with telemedicine ICU support.
- Equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP.
- Tele/monitor techs are available to read monitors; nurses responsible for strip interpretation.
- Orientation consists of 8 hours with learning EPIC, followed by 8 hours with educator, shadowing for 4 hours, and 12 hours with a preceptor.
- Weekend requirement: Six weekends in a six-week period.
- Holiday requirement: Every other holiday.
- Scrub color/dress code: No specific color requirements.
- No specific minimum experience beyond one year.
