Job Summary
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Nurse Tacoma, Washington. This position involves providing specialized care for neonatal patients in a Level IV NICU that serves the Puget Sound region and surrounding communities. The role supports a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering advanced neonatal care, including CRRT and ECMO support, with a focus on safety and quality patient outcomes.
Job Details
- Schedule: Night shifts (7 p.m. 7 a.m.) with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: 3 years of experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Level IV Neonatal ICU, with at least 1 year of experience specifically in Pediatric Emergency Department (PEDs ED) or Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Valid Washington state license, Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- Preferred Qualifications: Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), STABLE certification.
- Patient Types and Common Diagnoses: Neonatal and pediatric patients with diagnoses including hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), perinatal hypoxic-necrosis (ppHN), asthma, respiratory illnesses, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), metabolic disorders, trauma (accidental and non-accidental), ingestions, congenital heart defects, cancer, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), among others.
- Technology and Equipment: Phillips monitor, Hamilton ventilator, Braun and Baxter IV pumps, Tecotherm, Zoll defibrillator, TXP, Cross Vent, Zoll emsCHARTS, EPIC electronic medical record system, Stryker gurney, transport isolette, ambulance and aircraft transport equipment (training provided during orientation).
- Float: When not transporting, may assist in other hospital units as needed.
- Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend.
- On Call: No.
- Additional Notes: The team consists of 1 RN, 1 RT, and an EMT who operates ambulance transport, partnering with NW Ambulance for ground and Airlift Northwest for air transports (fixed and rotor wing). Note: This position involves supporting interhospital neonatal and pediatric transport via ground or air, airway management, vasoactive infusions, non-invasive ventilation, and other advanced neonatal care procedures.
