Job Summary:
A Step Down Unit Nurse in Morgantown, West Virginia, provides specialized care for patients transitioning from intensive care to general wards within an acute care setting. The role involves managing a diverse patient population with primarily medical diagnoses, utilizing EPIC electronic health record experience, and working on a 12-hour night shift schedule. The nurse collaborates with charge nurses, clinical associates, and other healthcare team members to deliver high-quality patient care.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with a minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license to practice in West Virginia, BLS certification from the American Heart Association, minimum of 1 year of professional nursing experience, EPIC electronic health record experience, and the ability to handle 6 med-surg or 3 step-down patients.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with titrating drips such as Heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbitol, ketamine, morphine/dilaudid/fentanyl PCA's, and TPN.
  • Unit Notes: The unit is a 29-bed step-down/med-surg unit currently under construction, with all beds equipped for step-down care expected to be operational by early 2026. The unit serves both floor and step-down patients, with nurse-to-patient ratios of 3:1 for step-down and 6:1 for floor areas.
  • Additional Information:
    • The unit employs charge RNs and house supervisors 24/7.
    • RNs will have orders written to titrate drips; no need to read strips as centralized monitoring with Phillips telemetry equipment is used.
    • Float responsibilities include being the first to be pulled to other floor or step-down units.
    • PPE and dress code permit any combination of royal blue and white.
    • No call or standby requirements, no specified holiday work mandated, and no specific scrubs mandated.
    • Orientation will be unit-specific, with a cancellation policy allowing two shifts per thirteen-week assignment and one shift for shorter assignments.
    • The start date for this position is 08/31/2026.
