Job Summary:
Step Down Unit Nurse specializing in acute care, located in Wheeling, West Virginia. This overnight position involves providing high-quality patient care within a specialized unit that manages patients with intermediate to high acuity conditions. The role emphasizes teamwork, clinical skills, and adaptability in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week. Shifts begin at 7:00 PM.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid nursing license, ACLS certification, BLS certification, NIHSS certification, with a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in a similar setting.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience in step down or intermediate care units is advantageous.
  • Float: All staff are required to float as needed into the rotation (Tele or MedSurg) w/ ratios up to 1:6, possibly 1:7 in MedSurg (not common).
  • Additional Information:
    • The unit handles a typical mix of patients with conditions such as chest pain, arrhythmias, post-PCI care, and other intermediate acuity cases.
    • Certifying professionals should be prepared to read and interpret cardiac strips and titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, and Heparin.
    • Respiratory management includes high flow oxygen and Bipap therapy managed by RTs who operate high-flow Ventilators.
    • Emergency coverage includes in-house hospitalist or intensivist staff 24/7, as well as an IV team and pharmacy services on-site around the clock.
    • Orientation involves initial shadowing with preceptors before working independently.
