Job Summary:
Step Down Unit Registered Nurse (RN) position in Omaha, Nebraska. This role involves providing intermediate care to patients with various cardiac, vascular, and surgical diagnoses. The RN will work in a 18-bed unit heavily focused on thoracic, electrophysiology, cath lab, and structural heart patients, supporting complex care needs in a dynamic environment.
Job Details:
- Schedule: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week, with shifts from 0630-1900 and 1830-0700. The manager will handle scheduling; no block or self-scheduling.
- Required Qualifications: Valid license to submit, current certifications including Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). Minimum of 2 years of experience working with the specified patient population.
- Preferred Qualifications: Not specified.
- Float: Will float to all same level and lower acuity units as needed.
- Additional Information: The unit supports a wide range of cardiac and vascular diagnoses, including post-surgical care, atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response, CHF, CVAs, and medication titrations including amio, nitro, nicardipine, epi, and cardizem. RNs are required to read and interpret telemetry strips and manipulate BiPAP and CPAP devices, aside from troubleshooting. There is a hospitalist and/or intensivist in-house 24/7, with cardiology on call after hours. The unit maintains a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients in the first 24 hours.
- Shift & Scheduling: 12-hour day and night shifts; weekends every other.
- Dress Code: Navy Blue scrub attire.
- RTO (Request to Leave) Policy: Upfront RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract are accepted; additional RTO requests will not be approved.
- Distance & Facility Restrictions: Candidate must reside within 50 miles of the facility and may not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any organization affiliated with the healthcare provider network. Driver's license required to verify location.
