Job Summary:
Pediatric Step Down Unit Nurse - Madison, WI. This position entails providing specialized care in a pediatric medical-surgical environment, managing patients with diverse acuity levels including neuro, diabetic, nephrology, and respiratory conditions. The role involves working in a dynamic, interdisciplinary setting with a focus on patient safety, clinical excellence, and family-centered care.
Job Details:
- Schedule: Rotating shifts, 12-hour shift hours from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm or 7:00 pm to 7:30 am. Shifts are Monday through Friday with every other weekend required. Minimum of 36 hours per week.
- Required Qualifications: Valid RN license; at least 2 years of recent inpatient acute care experience within the last 3 years in a pediatric, step-down, or similar environment; Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; experience with telemetry including passing a telemetry exam prior to start; proficiency in Epic EHR system; valid Pediatric Specialty experience; and minimum experience of 0 years in the specific role.
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience managing pulmonary lines, respiratory failure requiring trach and ventilator dependence, neuro patients including seizure disorders, diabetic patients managing diabetic ketoacidosis, renal transplant patients, patients with spinal fusion, and intermediate/general care populations.
- Additional Information: The position requires pass/fail telemetry interpretation exams with strict criteria, including identification of lethal rhythms and correct answers on heart block questions. The traveler must be willing to float as needed and will start on 09/14/2026, with an end date of 12/14/2026. Orientation consists of 36 hours. The facility is a Magnet-designated center with advanced pediatric trauma and NICU services.
