Job Summary
The organization is seeking a Registered Nurse specializing in Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) for a position in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. This role involves providing specialized post-operative care to primarily pediatric patients (ages 0-17) in a busy Level 1 Trauma designated teaching hospital setting. The RN will work in a dedicated pediatric recovery unit, managing a variety of surgical cases with a focus on post-op care and monitoring.
Job Details
- Shift: Days, 12-hour shifts, with a minimum of 36 hours per week
- Required Qualifications: Valid RN license, 2 years of clinical experience, at least 1 year in critical care pediatrics, and current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Preferred Qualifications: Experience in surgical specialties excluding cardiac, and familiarity with managing vented patients and ICU-level gtts such as heparin, insulin, and cardiac medications
- Patient Care: Serves predominantly pediatric inpatients, with occasional adult patient care based on unit needs; RN-to-patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:2 depending on acuity
- Responsibilities: Managing vented patients, ICU-level medications, and post-operative recovery, primarily in an open bay unit with a team-oriented approach
- Support & Equipment: Access to anesthesia 24/7, telemetry monitoring, EPIC electronic medical records, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors; support staff includes transporters, receptionists, PACU educators, and dedicated charge nurses
- Orientation: Facility and unit-specific orientation, including two precepted shifts, with scrubs provided and free parking available
