Job Summary
Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Nurse in a high-acuity trauma center is responsible for monitoring post-operative patients levels of recovery and consciousness following anesthesia. The role involves providing updates to the medical team, obtaining and recording vital signs, observing for side effects of anesthesia medications, managing pain, nausea, and other post-surgical symptoms, and educating patients and families on post-surgery care. This position requires critical thinking and the ability to work independently.
Job Details
- Schedule: Days shift, Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with on-call responsibilities, including one call day rotation per week and one weekend every five weeks.
- Required Qualifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state or district; minimum of 2 years recent PACU/Preoperative Care experience; experience working in Phase 1 Post Anesthesia Care Unit; graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program.
- Preferred Qualifications: BSN degree; certifications such as PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support); additional certifications such as CPAN, TNCC, CCRN are highly desirable.
- Additional Information: Must live at least 100 miles away from the facility; candidates should possess the ability to think critically and work independently. Responsibilities include updating electronic medical records, providing patient education on post-surgery care, and observing patients for adverse reactions.
