Registered Nurse (RN) – Operating Room (OR) | General Surgery

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) to join a fast-paced surgical services team. The OR RN will provide comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures, collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care throughout the perioperative process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
  • Prepare operating rooms, equipment, instruments, and supplies for scheduled surgeries.
  • Serve as a circulating nurse during general surgery and other operative procedures.
  • Maintain sterile technique and ensure compliance with infection prevention standards.
  • Monitor patients' physiological status and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.
  • Document patient care accurately and in accordance with facility policies.
  • Participate in emergency surgical procedures as needed.
  • Support patient and family education regarding perioperative care.
  • Adhere to all regulatory, safety, and quality standards.

Schedule & Call Requirements

  • Full-time schedule, approximately 40 hours per week.
  • Rotating shifts, including a combination of 8-hour, 10-hour, and 12-hour shifts as needed.
  • On-call responsibilities required.
  • Must be able to respond to call within 30 minutes when scheduled.
  • Weekend, holiday, and after-hours coverage may be required based on department needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Minimum recent Operating Room nursing experience required.
  • Experience circulating in General Surgery procedures.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Strong knowledge of perioperative nursing standards and sterile technique.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACLS certification.
  • CNOR certification.
  • Experience with multiple surgical specialties.
  • Previous travel or large acute-care hospital experience.

  • Strong critical thinking and clinical judgment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing surgical schedules and patient needs.
