OB RN / Med-Surg Float – West Union, IA

Facility: Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital – Critical Access Hospital
Location: West Union, IA
Contract: 13 weeks
Start: ASAP
Shift: 12-hour Days | 5:00 AM–5:00 PM
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week
Schedule: Every 3rd weekend + holiday rotation

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced OB RN who is also comfortable working Med/Surg in a small Critical Access Hospital. This nurse must be confident working independently across Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Med/Surg and capable of serving as a backup Charge RN.

When OB census is low or the department is closed, the traveler will float to Med/Surg as helping hands.

Unit Details

Facility: 25-bed Critical Access Hospital

OB

• 4 LDRP rooms
• 1 postpartum/C-section prep room
• Approximately 85–90 deliveries/year
• Low-risk obstetrics
• Active labor: 1:1
• Early labor: 1:2
• Postpartum/couplets: up to 1:3, though 1:3 is uncommon

Med/Surg

• 20 beds
• Average census: 8–10
• Majority skilled-care level patients
• Typical ratio: 1:3–4
• Maximum ratio: 1:5
• CNAs available on both shifts

Requirements

• Active Iowa RN license
• AHA BLS
• AHA ACLS
• NRP
• Minimum Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring
• 2+ years of relevant experience
• Previous Charge RN experience required
• Must be able to work independently in L&D, postpartum and Med/Surg
• Critical Access Hospital experience strongly preferred
• Epic experience beneficial

Call / Floating

• No routine call requirement
• May voluntarily take call during low census
• Callback would only occur for an emergency
• Must float between OB and Med/Surg

Scheduling

Blocked scheduling will be considered, but cannot be guaranteed every week.

Additional Information

• OB scrubs provided by the hospital
• Med/Surg scrub color: staff choice
• 8 hours unbillable orientation
• Guaranteed hours apply weekly, except when affected by holiday/unit closures
• Candidate must begin the medical portion of compliance within 48 hours of accepting an offer, or within 24 hours for a quick start
